Is it me, or is this election the most talked about election in years? I don't recall any election being so much in the forefront of every news station 24/7. It certainly isn't unusual in our house for the kids to know a lot about the happenings in the world, including the elections. Whether for good or bad, we share general information about what's happening, and they ask a lot of questions that we try to answer for them. And with the media's constant reporting, it's hard to ignore.
Number One Guy and I also love to make sure our kids know voting is important. Years ago, we started bringing the kids with us to vote, mainly out of necessity. He and I normally meet at the polling location, and go in together. As the kids have gotten older, they still come with us, but right into the voting booth. We asked several years ago if this was OK, and they said yes, so we've taken them in ever since. We always have a talk before we go in "don't say anything political, and just be respectful of everyone's views. Not everyone votes like we do." The kids are always respectful and quiet, and realize this is an important day. Today was no different. Hubby took the girls in his booth, and I took Scout in mine. I showed him the parties, and all the names, and he respectfully abstained from pushing any buttons. After we were done, I showed him a map on the wall with the districts in our state, and explained with my limited knowledge, about districts. Hubby had already gone over electoral votes the other day, so I didn't redo that conversation. Then we all went out for pizza and pasta to "celebrate" election day. Personally, I think the going out to dinner needs to be a continued part of our tradition from now on!! Now we're home to sit on the couch for hours, waiting for all the results to come in.
Many are apprehensive about the outcome of this election. However, I just keep reminding myself what I know about God...... God is good, and His mercy and love for us never stops. No matter what, He'll take care of us. God has a plan, and a purpose, in all things.

Hi Robin,
Don't want to be the bearer of bad news but while it is true that God is in charge and he takes care of us. He did not want it to be this way, and the innocent as well as the guilty will have to reap the difficulties that insue. Are we to be spared when our unborn brothers and sisters are slaughtered. I think we can expect the same fate at some point. The early Christians were in the hands of God, and they suffered excruciatingly when thrown to the lions. They were probably much better Christians than many of us are. The scariest for me.. is the fate of my children.
True, but it says in the Bible perfect love casts out fear....God's love IS perfect. Trusting in God more than man. It doesn't mean everything will be OK, it just means we can have peace in troubled times!
That's something that my hubby reminded me about -- that God is God, and His plans are perfect. He said, "Who knows -- maybe this will bring on revival that we have been praying about for so long." If we voted according to our conscious and what lines up with what God wishes, then we are free from fault.
Fun Traditions. I like it! We haven't started any traditions on that day yet - but I should. Its only once every four years right???
