So we needed to get away this weekend. Between husband's stress at work, and the rest of us with homework, piles of laundry, and other responsibilities, it was time to just leave for a couple of days. You know how you have the "picture perfect" weekends away all mapped out in your head? No phones ringing, no yardwork, everyone is having fun, no meals to worry about. The first two things are correct....no phones ringing (yay!), and no yardwork. The other two things are not so correct. Our oldest is having some neck and back pain, and after seeing a Dr. on Friday afternoon, she continued to suffer through the weekend. The chiropractor showed the x-ray, and her neck vertebrae are curved the opposite way, and will need a few weeks of therapy. In addition, our son developed a severe head cold. It was difficult for him to 'have fun'. Because of this, we decided to eat only one meal out. So much for no worrying about meals. On the way to the restaurant my son's phlegm production increased quite a bit. Nice, huh? It just wasn't worth it for him to suffer while the rest of us had fun, and we certainly didn't want the entire restaurant sick. Sooo...we got take out.
On the positive side we did have a very nice meal (albeit a few dirty dishes), we shopped, played Wii together (Just Dance!), and chilled out. My hubby also did some metal detecting. It was an absolutely beautiful day to be outside. I'm grateful for the time we had away. Although not ideal, it was OUR weekend away...an opportunity to gain some perspective from a different situation (sickness included)...away from the pressures of any schedule. Believe me, I'm right on the edge of grumbling but I won't give in! I could very well decide to think about the negative, but it's my own choice to be grateful and think about all the positives. Gratefulness really is a choice. I'm choosing to be grateful for our wonderful weekend away, and it feels so right!
