My baby boy is leaving for camp. Last year at this time I was sending him off for the FIRST time for 6 days to scout camp. I really couldn't wait for him to get back before he even left. After all, he was only 9. Now that he's 10, it's better, but still not fun for me. I know he's capable of taking care of himself in so many ways. He gets along well with all his scout friends, and has no problems behaving for the scout leaders. He loves to take showers, and actually I rarely have to remind him. He knows how to swim well. He doesn't take any medication, or have any health problems. I'm just trying to convince myself he'll be OK.
Hmm....I never did finish this, but I'll post it anyway. Yes, my boy is back from camp, and had a super time canoeing, swimming, hiking, working on archery badges, making crafts, and sleeping in tents with his buddies. He made it safely with only a few bug bites, two big blisters, and a couple of scrapes. The scout leader made a point to say (without me asking), that 'Your son' was so well behaved and mannerly. He was great. We work with our kids on a daily basis so that they can behave the right way, so it's nice to receive a comment like that, just to know all the hard work is paying off! Pouring in the love and training on a consistent basis eventually will pay off. Yay! Now my prayer is that this year of homeschooling will go as smoothly as scout camp.
