How time just marches on, and here it is, November already! I am moving forward in my Christmas shopping, and looking for the best online deals and clearance racks. Saving money is something everyone is talking about these days, and I'm right there trying to pay off debt and build a savings. Here's how I've saved some money recently:
Bread outlet store: I bought 6 bags of bagels, 1 bag of sub rolls, choc chip cookies, donuts, cinnamon muffins, and packaged mini muffins (12 packs of muffins), 4 loaves of bread..... I have frozen most of it, and will take out what I need, when I need it. This is my 4th weekly trip to the bread outlet, and now I won't go anywhere else. The mini muffins were a dollar per box and in another superstore they were triple that price! Bill for bread items: $21.00
Buy on clearance racks: For a friend's 11th Birthday we just bought two adorable shirts for $17.00 at Kohl's, plus I had a Kohl's cash for $10. I don't want to be wasteful so I only bought things I knew she would actually wear! Our birthday bill, including homemade card: $7.00
Borrowed costume: My son needed a "Spartan" cape for Halloween. We borrowed one from the church's plentiful supply of costumes, and returned it promptly. Our bill: Free!
Dollar Menu and ice water: At least once a week we have to grab a quick bite to eat. Instead of "meal deals" (which they really aren't), the 4 of us ordered from the dollar menu, and ordered 10 cent ice waters. Our bill for dinner: $9.38
Skip the Movies: We just signed up for Net.....and we love it! We didn't see any movies in Sept. Oct. Instead, we choose movies through our game system, and watch movies all the time, at little cost. This past month, we've watched 6 movies. Previously, through the pay per view we would pay an average of $3.00 per movie ($18.00). Our monthly movie bill: $8.00
Win a Contest: My daughter saw a sign for a costume contest on Halloween. Hmmm...you could win a blizzard cake and a $25.00 gift card. I thought.... What the heck? Let's try! So I took her to the contest, and she won in her age group. Not only did she walk away very happy with a gift card, she also shared the very large blizzard cake with our neighbors and friends who came over that night for dinner and trick or treating! Aha! Thanks, Aly for winning.
I'd love to hear about your money-saving experiences!
